National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) Tour

The National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens (EMST) is Greece’s leading institution for contemporary art and visual culture, and one of the flagship art institutions in Southern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean. Situated in the historic FIX brewery—a landmark with distinct architectural and sociological significance—the museum houses an impressive collection of Greek and international contemporary art, with a strong focus on the 21st century.
Our guided tour begins with an exploration of the museum’s permanent collection, where we will discuss the curatorial vision and the artistic and stylistic questions that shape the exhibition. We will delve into key works that define the museum’s approach to contemporary art, examining their themes, techniques, and cultural relevance.
Beyond the collection, EMST hosts an annual exhibition cycle dedicated to a specific theme. The 2024 program was dedicated to women in art, while 2025 will focus on the ecological crisis, nature, and humanity’s environmental footprint. In the second part of the tour, we will explore the museum’s temporary exhibitions, offering insight into the latest artistic dialogues shaping contemporary thought.
Join us for a journey through the bold and thought-provoking world of contemporary art in one of Athens’ most important cultural spaces.
