The Psirri neighborhood in the center of Athens is one of the oldest inhabited neighborhoods in the city. in all the years that residents have lived in it, it has undergone countless significant transformations. During the 20th century it housed different craftsman, the heroes of the Greek revolution, criminal gangs, drug dealers and Rambatiko players, Bohemians and immigrants. From a neglected neighborhood to one where the processes of gentrification are accelerated with the arrival of artists, musicians and young people to the neighborhood.
As always, these artistic habitants change the face of the neighborhood and bring new culture to it whilst the hype around it grows. Today, Psirri is considered a must-stop for anyone visiting the city.
On this tour we will wander through the magical streets of Psirri and Monstraki neighborhoods. Among the murals, the colorful shops, and also in lesser known corners of the neighborhood. We will examine the boundaries between art and craft and visit art galleries, design centers, ceramic galleries, vintage collectibles stores and the workshops of designer artists and goldsmiths.
