2025 has been good to us. This year we launched our activity in Athens, experienced an incredible amount of inspiring art, and we’re excited for what’s still to come.
With the start of the new year, we’re also adjusting the way we share recommendations on the blog, moving to a new and more focused content format. From now on, you’ll receive our curated recommendations for art exhibitions and cultural events in Athens once a month. We’ll bring together a wider selection of exhibitions and suggest easy, self-guided art routes — your go-to guide for staying inspired ahead of a visit to one of Europe’s most vibrant cities, especially for art lovers.
Here’s a roundup of exhibitions worth seeing in Athens this January: a new art collection in the south, a solo show using unconventional materials, an eight-day pop-up exhibition for photography lovers, and a self-guided art route through the vibrant Psirri neighborhood.
Enjoy this month in Athens, and don’t forget to reach out if you’d like a more in-depth tour with our team.
See you soon!

Moments Collective – Street Life 2026
Moments Collective – Street Life 2026 is an international photography initiative showcasing works from photographers around the world. Each year, professional and advanced amateur photographers are invited to submit work on a selected theme, and this year the focus is on street photography, one of the most iconic and popular genres. In an era of constant photography, curating an exhibition on such a familiar topic is no easy task, but the selected works offer a fascinating glimpse into everyday life and fleeting moments from across the globe, capturing the creativity, perspective, and energy of contemporary photographers, and showing how they transform the streets into a living canvas.
January 23–31, 2026. It will take place at two venues: the Italian Institute of Education 28is Oktovriou 47, and iFocus Photo Gallery, 57 Akadimias St. & 13 Ippokratous St., Athens

An Evening Botanist solo exhibition by Andreas Mallouris
In An Evening Botanist, Andreas Mallouris creates a contemplative exhibition exploring the body, intimacy, and care. Using sculptures, installations, drawings, and video, he combines familiar and unexpected materials—metal, plaster, soap, and plant elements—arranged in ways that evoke medical tools, garden structures, and everyday supports. Drawing on the early twentieth-century term “evening botanist,” once used for men meeting secretly in public gardens, Mallouris reimagines this figure as an attentive observer, exploring themes of healing, touch, and connection. Through the recurring image of the “graft,” where one part supports another to allow growth, the works invite viewers to slow down and reflect on how care, vulnerability, and closeness shape our bodies and shared spaces.

Fernweh, or Nostalgia for Unknown Places
Step into the world of the Eirini Panagopoulou Collection in this group exhibition, presented in a new art space launched by the collector to share her collection. Spanning from the 16th century to contemporary art, it features artists such as Salvador Dalí, Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas, Francis Alÿs, and Chrysa Romanou. Curated by Katerina Chatzi, Fernweh presents collecting as a personal act of exploration, engaging with questions of history, memory, and human experience. The show also emphasizes Panagopoulou’s focus on women in art, exploring identity, dilemmas, and ideals that remain relevant today, while creating a dialogue between past and present across paintings, folk objects, design pieces, books, and archives.
On view through 27.02.2026. 157 Konstantinou Karamanli Avenue, Voula

Niki de Saint Phalle. From Shooting to Freedom
How cool was Niki de Saint Phalle?
Very cool, if you ask us.And just in time for the New Year, Athens is hosting an exhibition dedicated to one of the most groundbreaking, controversial, colorful, and emotionally powerful artists of the 20th century. The new exhibition at the MOMus Museum presents some of her most iconic works — including the instantly recognizable, vibrant sculptures she is famous for — alongside lesser-known but equally fascinating pieces. Among them is her striking series of photographs documenting the moment she literally shoots her own artworks.

Charles Sandison — The Athens Algorithm
Charles Sandison, a leading figure in digital and generative art, presents a new exhibition in Athens exploring how thought, language, and code can merge into a single visual system. Using computer-generated projections, words, data, and symbols move through space like living matter, forming and dissolving continuously. Drawing inspiration from Athens as a birthplace of philosophy, mathematics, and myth, Sandison’s algorithms create fragments of text that evolve, drift, and fall apart, while the presence of Ada Lovelace echoes in the background as a figure connecting imagination and logic. Through shifting layers of light and language, the exhibition invites viewers to witness how ideas take shape and how the boundary between technology and thought becomes unexpectedly porous.
On view through 22.01.2026. Bernier/Eliades Gallery, Athens, at Bernier/Eliades Gallery, 11 Eptachalkou Street, 11851 Athens
